We rehearse weekly, on Tuesday evenings from 7-9 PM at a professional rehearsal space in midtown Manhattan.

GRC’s repertoire consists of well-known Rock, Pop, Motown and Broadway/Film hits from the 60’s through today. Chances are good you’ll already be familiar with many of the songs we do. Our past repertoire has included well-known songs made famous by artists such as Bon Jovi, Queen, Pentatonix, Tina Turner, Bob Marley, The Beatles, Jackie Wilson and many others. Each cycle, we learn an eclectic range of songs from different eras and genres.

Nope. We’re a mixed (women and men) accompanied choir. But we occasionally work on acapella pieces, and there are opportunities in our cabaret evenings to work on them. So if acapella happens to be your jam, you can make that happen in Gotham Rock Choir.

Gotham Rock Choir has performed at a variety of venues in NYC and beyond. Previous gigs have included backing up the National Tour of Broadway’s “Rocktopia” with Dee Snider (Twisted Sister) and Constantine Maroulis (“American Idol”), singing with Universal Music recording artists The Tenors at NYC’s Town Hall and on NBC’s “Today Show” with Kathie Lee & Hoda, plus various performances at Madison Square Garden, Barclay Center, the New York City Veteran’s Day Parade, the Knitting Factory and the New York Stock Exchange Christmas Tree Lighting.

Nope. All you need to be a good choir member is a love of singing, as well as energy and passion both for the music and the choir itself. We consider those things far more important than such things as sight-reading or years of singing in other choirs. Even if the only singing you’ve ever done in your life has been in your shower, we can still use your voice! Singing is like any other skill, really–the more you do it, the better you’ll get.

Nope! We provide audio files for some of our material that allows our non-music-reading members to learn everything by ear, just like you’ve probably learned most of the songs you know right now, and we encourage members to record our rehearsals. But we do work from sheet music, so if you DO happen to read music, you can learn the songs that much faster. While we encourage people to learn to read music (it’s a great skill for a singer to have!) the fact is that if you have a decent ear for music, you’ll do fine.

Unlike many other choirs, we don’t hire or use outside soloists–our singers do them. So if you happen to be a great solo singer, or want to try a solo, you’ll find plenty of opportunities in Gotham Rock Choir.

• Coming to Rehearsal and Learning the Music. Each cycle, we learn a number of songs together and eventually perform them “off-book” (not holding sheet music). Therefore we ask that if you join GRC, you make a commitment to attend all or most of our Tuesday evening rehearsals, and work on the music in your spare time. We provide audio tracks for some of our material for folks who primarily learn music by ear, and encourage all of our members to record our rehearsals.
• Getting an Audience For Our Concerts. GRC members are also expected to help “fill the house” for our concerts. There’s nothing better than performing for a full house of enthusiastic audience members!

First and foremost, membership in GRC will develop and strengthen your musical and performance abilities, giving you a new sense of self-confidence. Also, don’t underestimate the social benefits of being part of a group like GRC: you’ll be part of a community of friendly, like-minded people all working towards a common goal.

The Member Fee for each cycle is $175, which is payable by check, money order or various online methods.

This is payable at your SECOND rehearsal, after you elect to join Gotham Rock Choir for the cycle. Your first rehearsal is completely free of charge, which allows you to give the choir a try and make sure it’s a good fit for you.
